Fans reacted to Daniel Cormier awarding Islam Makhachev with pastries after his latest win.
On Saturday night, Makhachev defended his lightweight title in the UFC 311 main event. The No.1-ranked pound-for-pound fighter was initially supposed to face Arman Tsarukyan in a rematch before the latter pulled out due to a last-minute back injury.
Tsarukyan was replaced by Renato Moicano, who was scheduled to fight Beneil Dariush at UFC 311. Instead, Moicano received a massive opportunity to dethrone Makhachev.
Makhachev extended his UFC lightweight title reign with his second consecutive D'arce choke finish, this time in the first round. Following his impressive performance, the Russian powerhouse was greeted backstage by Daniel Cormier, who gifted him pastries.

Several fans referenced Islam Makhachev's close friend and teammate Umar Nurmagomedov, who was featured in the UFC 311 co-main event.
Nurmagomedov came up short in his attempt to dethrone Merab Dvalishvili of the bantamweight title. He lost by unanimous decision and sustained his first professional MMA defeat.
What's next for Islam Makhachev in the UFC?
Many fans wondered if Islam Makhachev vs. Arman Tsarukyan 2 would be re-booked after the disappointing fight week cancellation. Following UFC 311, Dana White announced that Tsarukyan would need at least one more win before earning the title shot.
Therefore, Tsarukyan could return in the near future to ensure he's the next fighter to challenge Makhachev. Meanwhile, the UFC could decide to give No.2-ranked Charles Oliveira the rematch opportunity after defeating Michael Chandler last time out.
Other potential options for Makhachev's next opponent are Max Holloway, who's officially committed to the lightweight division, or the winner of Justin Gaethje vs. Dan Hooker, scheduled for the UFC 313 co-main event on March 8.
Makhachev has also teased a move up to welterweight to potentially become a two-division world champion.
