Umar Nurmagomedov took on Raoni Barcelos in the first main card bout of the first UFC event of the year. The Dagestani standout lived up to his surname's legacy, scoring a stunning first-round KO win over Barcelos.
After missing with a rear knee from the southpaw stance, Nurmagomedov caught Barcelos with a left hand that merely appeared to be a follow-through but shockingly put the Brazilian to sleep. Nurmagomedov followed-up with a vicious hammerfist on his unconscious opponent, which he later regretted.

The 27-year-old was not happy about the 'emotional' hammerfist he threw without registering that his opponent was already knocked out. Nurmagomedov said in his post-fight octagon interview:
"I'm little bit feel bad because I didn't see he's already TKO'd and punch him. I didn't see. I did this [hammerfist action] very quickly, like, emotional. I myself, I told him sorry. That's why I feel bad. For win, I'm happy of course, I'm good. First time I do TKO in my life. And I don't know, like crazy."

Umar Nurmagomedov talks about Khabib Nurmagomedov cutting ties with MMA
Apart from being from the same MMA school in Dagestan, Umar Nurmagomedov is also the cousin of MMA GOAT contender Khabib Nurmagomedov. After retiring from the sport with a perfect 29-0 record in 2020, 'Eagle' put on his coach's shoes, helping his teammates and brothers until recently.
The former UFC lightweight king recently announced that he will seemingly be severing all ties with the sport to spend more time with his family. However, Umar Nurmagomedov believes his cousin will continue guiding others as he has coaching in his blood.
What will seemingly change is that Khabib Nurmagomedov won't be spending months helping his brothers in training camps. Nurmagomedov's 27-year-old cousin recently told TSN's Aaron Bronsteter:
“I think this guy has in his blood coaching fighters. I don’t think he can stop it, he will still control me and my brother, other guys, but not the same [way], you understand? He doesn’t want to travel, doesn’t want to come to camps and stay with us a couple of months.”
