Umar Nurmagomedov is in the eyes of many the rightful number one contender for the bantamweight title held by Merab Dvalishvili. However, the Georgian's reluctance to entertain a fight with 'Young Eagle' has caused frustration from both the Dagestani, as well as fans.

Petr Yan, a former opponent of Dvalishvili, recently defeated Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event of UFC Macau on Nov. 23. Their bantamweight clash was rumored to be a number one contender fight, with Yan now potentially next in line for a title shot.

But UFC CEO Dana White has not confirmed this to be the case.

'The Machine' took to social media following Yan's win over the former flyweight champion and shared a callout of the Russian, who is keen to run back their UFC Fight Night 221 clash, this time with much highter stakes.

Umar Nurmagomedov isn't interested in disrespecting Merab Dvalishvili

Umar Nurmagomedov believes he is the rightful number one contender at 135 pounds, and has made several callouts of the champion Merab Dvalishvili.

But the Dagestani has made it clear that disrespect is not what he is after, and recently took to X to share praise for Dvalishvili's journey to UFC gold.

The No.2-ranked bantamweight wrote:

"I don't want to disrespect Merab. If I somehow did, then I have no problem apologizing. He's someone who came up from the very bottom and became champion. His journey deserves respect. He's a true hard worker. Between him and me, it's only the championship belt. There's no reason for any insults. When our fight is scheduled, we'll find out who's stronger, and that's all there is to it."
