Fans were surprised to see Islam Makhachev, who fought just last Saturday at UFC 311, already back in training.

Makhachev defended his UFC lightweight title for the fourth time and made history in the process. He was initially scheduled to face Arman Tsarukyan; however, the Armenian fighter withdrew due to a back injury. The pound-for-pound king instead faced Renato Moicano and secured a quick first-round submission victory via D’Arce choke.

However, UFC 311 turned out to be a rather bittersweet event for the lightweight champion, as his close friend and training partner Umar Nurmagomedov lost his bantamweight title fight against Merab Dvalishvili.

Spinnin Backfist shared a video of Makhachev back in training following his victory over Moicano. The post ignited reactions from several MMA enthusiasts who rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts.

Islam Makhachev expresses confidence in Umar Nurmagomedov's future despite UFC 311 loss

In the post-fight press conference at UFC 311, Islam Makhachev was asked about Umar Nurmagomedov's loss. The lightweight champion expressed his confidence in Nurmagomedov’s future and reassured that the bantamweight will one day become a champion. Makhachev said:

"Honestly, it was hard. I tried to warm up but I still watched the whole fight. Of course it made me a little bit sad, but Umar [was] looking good. Umar is still young, still hungry. He has time. Because he's still young, he made some mistakes in this fight. Merab did his job very well and they had a close fight. Umar did not take damage."

He continued:

"It's okay, he broke his arm also. 100% I think he will come back, because he's young, still hungry and he's gonna be UFC champion one day."
