Bellator middleweight champion Johnny Eblen recently took a jab at Colby Covington. In March 2022, Covington secured his latest UFC win, a unanimous decision against Jorge Masvidal. Since then, the American welterweight has fought twice, suffering consecutive losses against then-170-pound champion Leon Edwards (December 2023) and rising contender Joaquin Buckley (December 2024).
At 36 years old, Covington's future in MMA was uncertain before he recently released a video voicing his intentions. He declared his intention to make a run at the UFC welterweight title, saying:
“I'm going to do the unthinkable. I'm going to shock the world. DC was a champion at 41. I’m only 36 years young. No reason I can't be champion. Belal Muhammad, whatever the race is, I can easily beat him."
Covington has received backlash from fans and fighters who don't think he can become an undisputed UFC champion. Undefeated Bellator champion Johnny Eblen reacted to Covington's post, saying:

Jorge Masvidal's last UFC fight was in April 2023 was a unanimous decision loss against Gilbert Burns. After losing four in a row, Masvidal announced his retirement from MMA and parted ways with the promotion.
He then competed in a boxing match against Nate Diaz, but came up short on the night and lost via majority decision.
Masvidal, 40, announced last year that he plans to return to MMA, with his intentions set on fighting in the UFC once again. Therefore, a rematch against Colby Covington isn't out of the picture.
