It appears Gervonta Davis vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko may not happen this year after all. Davis' co-trainer Kenny Ellis recently provided a significant update on the boxing match between Lomachenko and Davis. Ellis stated that the Ukrainian will step aside from the bout and allow 'Tank' to take on Shakur Stevenson this fall. He will then take on the winner in early 2025.
Davis and Lomachenko are among the top names in boxing right now. After their most recent triumph, there was much anticipation in the boxing community for the two fighters to face off, and it seemed that this wish was finally being granted.
Lomachenko's promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank Boxing, disclosed in a previous interview with BoxingScene that the IBF lightweight world champion wants to face Davis next.
According to boxing journalist Dan Rafael, Arum has admitted that discussions on the title unification fight have begun. Depending on the length of the talks, the fight is expected to occur at the end of the year. However, there's been a major change in the anticipated bout.

Following Stevenson's unanimous decision victory over Artem Harutyunyan to defend his WBC lightweight title, Ellis took to social media and revealed that Lomachenko is ready to step aside and let Davis fight the 27-year-old. Boxing journalist Michael Benson recently shared the news on X.
Prior to his fight against Harutyunyan, Stevenson spoke to BoxingScene and expressed his desire to face Davis, saying:
''We all know that me and Tank is going to be the biggest fight in years to come. Everybody and any promoter will want to be involved when that happens. I just sit back and chill and try not to think about it. I'll think about it when it happens. Every hood in America is going to want to watch that fight" [H/t: Marca.com]
