The UFC decided to go with No.10-ranked Brazilian Renato Moicano to face Makhachev following Tsarukyan's back injury. Dana White announced the same on X, after which Volkanovski posted:

Dillon Danis calls out Islam Makhachev
Dillon Danis, renowned for creating more noise outside the ring than in actual competition, is unhappy that Renato Moicano has stepped in to fight Islam Makhachev.
He took a dig at Moicano after calling out Makhachev, with whom he has shared bad blood since UFC 229. Danis posted on X stating that he wants to come to LA, fight the Dagestani lightweight king, and settle their differences inside the octagon once and for all.
"Perfect time to settle everything. I’ll fly to LA tomorrow and fight @MAKHACHEVMMA no problem. I submit the inbred inside one round and send him back to his brother-and-sister parents. @moicanoufc is literally absolute garbage. This can’t be considered a title fight, and no one wants to see it. Let’s make it happen. I’m ready."
