On Aug. 17, the UFC strengthened its presence in Australia with UFC 305, which took place inside the RAC Arena in Perth. The event was headlined by a title change in the middleweight division, as fan favorite Israel Adesanya endured a shocking fourth-round submission defeat against Dricus du Plessis.
Luckily, the Australian fans had plenty to cheer about that night, as Dan Hooker and Kai Kara-France secured massive wins. The country's growing support for MMA has been acknowledged by the UFC, as the worldwide leader in MMA plans to return for another event before 2025.
Earlier today, the UFC took to X and posted the following message announcing UFC 312 for Feb. 9, 2025:
"Say g'day to summer down under #UFC312 is coming to @Sydney_Sider! #FeelNewSydney | Feb 09 | Details at http://UFC.com/Sydney"

UFC 312 will be the first promotional event in Sydney, Australia since UFC 293 in September 2023. Adesanya suffered a shocking defeat that night, similar to UFC 305, as Sean Strickland defeated him via unanimous decision to win the UFC middleweight world title.
Who should headline UFC 312 in Australia?
Israel Adesanya's future is unclear following his defeat against Dricus du Plessis. The 35-year-old is coming off back-to-back world title losses and may need to defeat a top middleweight contender before challenging the champion.
UFC 312 will be six months after Adesanya's latest fight. Therefore, the timeline could be perfect for the fan favorite to make his octagon return. With that said, 'The Last Stylebender' hasn't been out of the main event since April 2019, which could happen if a title bout is added to the upcoming event in Sydney.
Meanwhile, Alexander Volkanovski is also worthy of potentially headlining UFC 312. He's in a similar spot to Adesanya, as he's coming off a world title loss and could be matched up against a top contender. The February 2025 event would be a year following Volkanovski's loss against Ilia Topuria.
Regardless of the circumstances, Volkanovski and Adesanya are expected to be featured at the next pay-per-view event in Australia.
