Ahead of Aung La N Sang’s middleweight clash at ONE Fight Night 10, take a look at the first-ever openweight super-fight between ‘The Burmese Python’ and Cameroonian heavyweight Alain Ngalini.

Back in November 2017, Aung La featured in an open weight super-fight against hard-hitting heavyweight ‘The Panther’ Alain Ngalini. At the time, ‘The Burmese Python’ was at the pinnacle of his MMA career, having won the middleweight belt against former ONE world champion Vitaly Bigdash in the same year.

Meanwhile, Cameroonian giant Alain Ngalani looked to continue his knockout streak against a fresh new face after making quick work of his last three opponents with first-round stoppages.

To please the MMA fans, Aung La and Ngalani accepted a David vs. Goliath showdown at ONE: Hero’s Dream at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Myanmar. As the odds teetered from side to side in the opening round, 'The Burmese Python' arose victorious with a scintillating guillotine choke with just 30 seconds left on the clock.

ONE CEO announces second openweight bout in history after Aung La N Sang vs. Alain Ngalani success

It’s possible to surmise that without the success of Aung La N Sang vs. Alain Ngalani, the promotion wouldn’t have had a good foundation to stand upon before announcing their second open-weight showdown for the fans.

Last month, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced an open-weight Muay Thai World Grand Prix tournament, in an attempt to draw combat sports fans into the thrilling world of Muay Thai.

The promotion is currently on the hunt for 16 of the world’s greatest Muay Thai fighters from any organization to compete for the $1 million USD prize. Many fighters have responded to the invitation, but only one contestant, Thailand’s Sinsamut Klinmee, has been officially entered into the tournament thus far.

But the process is being set in motion at a rapid pace with the CEO planning to kick-off the monumental World Grand Prix this year.
