For the legions of fans that came to Bangkok, Aung La N Sang delivered last weekend. Fighting submission specialist Gilberto Galvao on short notice, Aung La sought his twentieth first-round finish.
The fight went exactly as smoothly as “The Burmese Python” could have hoped, rolling over Galvao at 1:29 of the first round.

After getting dropped to the floor, Gilberto Galvao gave up a full mount to Aung La, who dropped punch after punch that bloodied the Brazilian. Referee Herb Dean stopped the fight soon after, awarding Aung La N Sang with his twentieth first-round finish.
Aung La N Sang expressed support for his team, Kill Cliff FC, and a desire to compete on ONE Championship’s US debut in Colorado, set for May 5th.
In addition, Mitch Chilson told Aung La that he’d receive a $50,000 performance bonus from ONE Championship for his quick TKO finish.
Aung La N Sang confident Burmese fans would follow him to a fight in Colorado
When Aung La N Sang made the walk to the cage in Bangkok’s Impact Arena, one may have wondered if the fight was in Aung La’s home of Myanmar.
The massive Burmese contingent elicited memories of his walkouts for his fights in Yangon, where the crowd screamed the lyrics to “Amae Like Akah” by Lay Phyu, a Burmese rock artist.
At the ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video post-fight press conference, “The Burmese Python” discussed his desire to fight at ONE Championship’s US debut, confident that the fan-turnout he received in Bangkok would be replicated in other countries:
"I know there's a card in Denver, that will be cool. And my friends and I will show up in any city in the world. We have 60 million Burmese in the world, they're going to show up no matter which city it is."
Aung La N Sang seems driven by the allure of regaining his title, wanting to fight as often as possible to create a path back to the belt. He’s held the belt in ONE Championship’s middleweight and light heavyweight divisions.
Currently ruling ONE’s light heavyweight division is arguably the most feared man in the organization.
If Aung La wants to regain his middleweight world championship, he’s looking at a trilogy fight with Dutchman Reinier de Ridder. He’s dropped two fights to de Ridder already, the last of which took place in April of 2021.
Since then, Aung La has gone 3-1, while de Ridder recently lost the light heavyweight world championship to Anatoly Malykhin, suffering his first pro MMA loss.
There’s plenty of options for Aung La for a spot on the Colorado card, and since he lives and trains in the US, it only makes sense to get a big fight on ONE’s first US event.
