When the bout commenced, 'Buchecha' immediately turned to his bread and butter, which was taking the fight down the mat and started working his way into a submission.
Less than a minute into the opening round, Almeida passed the guard of his Brazilian compatriot and assured himself into a dominant position.
Silva tried to counter and neutralize the position through a body lock, but it did not last long because the BJJ legend rained down several ground and pound strikes to break it.
The first real threat Almeida attempted was an arm triangle choke at the 3:31 mark of the round, but he didn't have enough torque to get the tap out of Silva.
Following the failed submission, Almeida transitioned into a north-south position and fired several knee strikes on Silva's head to open up more submission chances and inflict damage.
With Silva constantly defending the knee strikes, he opened himself up into a north-south choke, and Buchecha fully capitalized until he got the tap out of him.
