Harrison came close to retiring in 2022 after suffering a devastating injury during his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title bout against Thai superstar Nong-O Hama.
In that fight, he tore his ACL, MCL, and meniscus — an ordeal that forced him to take a step back from competition and nearly ended his storied career.
Following surgery and a grueling year-long recovery in 2023, Harrison rekindled his passion for the sport and worked on returning to the global stage.
In September 2024, the Englishman stepped back into the Circle at ONE 168, where he faced off against fellow knockout artist Seksan Or Kwanmuang in a thrilling bout that ended in a second-round TKO loss for Harrison.
After the match, Harrison left his gloves in the middle of the cage, a symbolic gesture of retirement. But in a later interview with ONE, the 39-year-old revealed that he wasn’t quite ready to hang up his gloves for good:
“I think after ONE 168, I may have just spat my dummy out because I’d not fought for so long and my emotions were high. I was so looking forward to coming back, and it didn’t go my way, so maybe I was too hard on myself.”
Liam Harrison squares off with Isaac Araya in March
Before making his official return to ONE, Liam Harrison will take on Spanish striker Isaac Araya on March 3.
Araya, who has over 50 Muay Thai fights to his name, previously faced Seksan Or Kwanmuang under the ONE banner in August 2023.
This tune-up fight is set to prepare Harrison for his next chapter in the sport.
