20-year-old BJJ phenom Cole Abate left a lasting impression on the global stage when he submitted Japanese legend Shinya Aoki in their lightweight submission grappling match at ONE Fight Night 26 on Dec. 6.
Abate forced a tap out of the Aoki in under three minutes of the match, and the world's largest martial arts organization published the ending sequence of the bout with the caption:
"'ICE' COLE 🥶 20-year-old phenom Cole Abate heels hooks Shinya Aoki in his ONE debut! @coleabatejj"

The young American transitioned into a heel hook position after being unable to find a submission from the bottom position. With the powerful torque he applied to the technique, Abate quickly tapped 'Tobikan Judan' for the finish.
Due to this fantastic finish, 'Ice' Cole earned an additional $50,000 performance bonus from ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

In the aftermath of his dream debut in ONE Championship, the Art of Jiu-Jitsu representative shared his immediate reaction with 'The Dragon' Mitch Chilson in his post-fight interview inside the ring.
Abate stated that he was on cloud nine after beating one of the best submission artists in history, especially since he witnessed the trail of destruction that the former ONE lightweight MMA world champion did when he was growing up.
The IBJJF Pan-American gold medalist shared:
"And it feels amazing. I always say I'm a student of the game so I'm always studying, always looking to evolve my game, and he's somebody that I've watched over the years especially having there being submissions named after him, I mean it doesn't get much better than that."
