ONE Championship is bringing Muay Thai back to its roots with ONE Friday Fights
In an effort to pay homage to the stadium that arguably created the careers of nearly every Muay Thai legend in modern history, the promotion has started having ONE Friday Fights. The weekly show will air from the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Most, if not all, of ONE Muay Thai world champions have seen success and become champions inside the walls of the Lumpinee Stadium. ONE titleholders like Nong-O, Rodtang, Tawanchai, and Superlek Kiatmuu9 were all Lumpinee Stadium champions. Other notable ONE Muay Thai fighters who have had their stomping grounds at the mythical fight venue are Panpayak Jitmuangnon, Prajanchai PK.Saenchai, and ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion Petchtanong Petchfergus.
Though the bouts will predominantly feature Muay Thai, ONE will also showcase MMA, kickboxing, and submission grappling.
In their first event, ONE Friday Fights 1, we saw pound-for-pound great Nong-O Gaiyanghadao defend his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title against Alaverdi Ramazanov in the main event. The Thai living legend utterly demolished the former world champion within three rounds.
