Women’s jiu-jitsu has never acquired this much attention from the fans until Danielle Kelly joined ONE Championship.
After making her promotional debut at ONE X in March 2022, everyone knew that the Kelly had something special. Her elite experience spoke volumes of her high-paced style and submission-oriented mindset that only she could pull off flawlessly.
The 27-year-old star is on the eve of celebrating her one-year anniversary with the Singapore-based promotion, and what better way to commemorate her accomplishments than to win her next bout at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Thailand?
North American audiences can watch Danielle Kelly vs Akaka Miura in a submission grappling match on Friday, February 24, live and free with an Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Danielle Kelly works on perfecting her wrestling in anticipation of Ayaka Miura’s tough judo skills
In a recent interview, Danielle Kelly revealed she’s perfecting her wrestling in anticipation of her next bout to Ayaka Miura.
Although Kelly’s jiu-jitsu skills are on point, the Silver Fox BJJ representative admitted recently that her wrestling skills are still kind of rusty. Despite having the slickest heel hook submissions and the quickest backtakes in the sport, the BJJ wizard is also aware that after two matches on the grand stage, her technique has become a little predictable.
To mix things up for her next bout, Kelly has resorted to wrestling to keep her opponent guessing.
Speaking to ONE Championship, the Philadelphia native explained how she intends to get the kill:
“I’ve been working on my wrestling. I’m trying to get back to that because I used to wrestle a lot. I don’t want to be just a guard puller. [But] I’ll be submitting her. I would like to get a choke. I think leglocks are starting to be overrated, but I mean, if I get a leg lock then I’ll just go for it, but I don’t want to just have tunnel vision on it.”
