Danielle Kelly and Ayaka Miura put on perhaps the most exciting and competitive submission grappling match in ONE Championship thus far. The bout, which took place on the main card of ONE Fight Night 7, saw Kelly rally late to win a unanimous decision win.
ONE's submission grappling roster is still growing at the moment and the match between Miura and Kelly was the first time both grapplers were able to put each other in real danger. Miura came close to locking in her trademark "Ayaka Lock" on Danielle Kelly, single-handedly holding the breath of the entire audience at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
As a natural mixed martial artist, Miura did more than was expected of her. For more than half of the bout, the Japanese MMA grappler had a one-catch lead over Kelly. The American Brazilian jiu-jitsu Black Belt, however, made a valiant comeback in the closing minutes of the bout.

In one of the most thrilling moments of the back-and-forth contest, Danielle Kelly managed to lock in a tight rear-naked choke on Miura. It was so tight that we were left wondering how 'Zombie' didn't tap our pass out.

Danielle Kelly rallies late to beat Ayaka Miura in razor-close submission grappling match
The historic catchweight submission grappling bout (119-pounds) between Danielle Kelly and Ayaka Miura is the first-ever women's bout of such nature inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Miura opened the bout with a quick foot sweep that momentarily took Kelly off guard. Once Kelly pulled guard, Miura right away pinned her down and worked her way to locking in her signature scarfhold keylock, the dreaded "Ayaka Lock".
Kelly may have underestimated Miura's mastery of the move as she got herself absolutely helpless and pinned while 'Zombie' slowly but surely tried to lock in the submission.
Kelly, however, kept her composure and slickly slipped out to control Miura's back. With just two minutes left in the bout, Miura was leading by one catch due to her submission attempt. Kelly then miraculously went into overdrive and secured the mount position, forcing the Japanese judoka to give up her back once again.
Kelly relentlessly pursued the rear-naked choke, trying to sneak her arm under Miura's chin. 'Zombie', however, was true to her monicker and toughened out athe near submissions before the final bell.
By the time the bell rang to signal the end of the bout, Danielle Kelly had narrowly scored two legitimate submission attempts against Miura, who had one. With a unanimous decision win, Kelly now has back-to-back wins in ONE, as she also stopped Mariia Molchanova with her trademark rear-naked choke a few months ago.
