Demetrious Johnson explains decision to sign with ONE, says he's just getting warmed up
Demetrious Johnson’s move to leave the UFC and sign with ONE Championship certainly created shockwaves throughout the combat sports world. He recently explained the move in an interview with Sports Illustrated, saying:
"I made my legacy in America in the UFC. I dominated in the division. I came up short in my last fight against Henry Cejudo, then I went to explore other options. I wanted more opportunities, like the fight against Rodtang. That’s why I came to ONE Championship."
The consensus flyweight GOAT continued, claiming he has a lot more to offer in the sport:
“A lot of athletes when they suffer a huge defeat and get knocked out, they get kind of gun-shy. But for me, I think I'm just getting more warmed up as a mixed martial artist and just getting better or that separates me, different from the others, people who are on the list of the greatest of all time.”
Johnson's memorable wins over the likes of Henry Cejudo, Joseph Benavidez, John Dodson, Ray Borg, and others have made him one of the top pound-for-pound mixed martial artists of all time.
