Of Danielle Kelly’s style, Chael Sonnen had this to say of what to expect from the American this weekend:
“Kelly does use her flexibility, she’ll roll under you, she’ll come underneath you, she’ll attack those legs, she’ll stretch you out if you give her a chance.”
Undefeated in ONE Championship, Danielle Kelly takes on Japanese judoka and ONE veteran Ayaka Miura on the main card of ONE Fight Night 7. The match will be Miura’s first foray into the grappling scene at ONE Championship, while it’ll be Kelly’s third since debuting less than a year ago.
The Silver Fox BJJ representative has traveled to the opposite corner of the globe from New Jersey, USA to Bangkok, Thailand to potentially make another case for ONE to introduce a women's submission grappling world title.
Meanwhile, Miura has already battled for a belt in ONE Championship. She is hoping to get back in the win column with this submission grappling match before she resumes her pursuit of the women's strawweight world title in MMA held by Xiong Jing Nan.
Danielle Kelly names three potential opponents for future ONE Championship grappling matches
Danielle Kelly is in Bangkok for ONE Fight Night 7, and she has some ideas about what she hopes her future in ONE Championship holds for her.
Speaking in her pre-fight interviews, Kelly name-dropped three women she’ll like to face in the future, including one current world champion of MMA:
"I mentioned Angela Lee. I think because she's a big name as well. It would bring a lot of eyes to women's jiu-jitsu. She's a big name in ONE Championship and MMA. I think that would be a good matchup. Another one was Jessa Khan. I know she signed. I don't know. I haven't seen her really compete, but that would be a good match-up and history. So I would definitely like to get that one back."
Kelly is not only loooking for competitive matchups for herself, but also matches that would gather the most possible interest from fans. Her third opponent would be one of ONE’s biggest rising stars:
"And the third one, I would say, Itsuki. She also has a lot of attention on her, and she's from New York now. So those would be my top three big names. They have a lot of attention on them."
ONE Fight Night 7 goes down on February 24 in US prime time, streaming on Amazon Prime for North American subscribers.
