Decorated French Muay Thai star Bampara Kouyate logged the biggest win of his ONE Championship career last Friday, July 5, at ONE Fight Night 23. The event took place inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Kouyate stumbled in his promotional debut effort against Shakir Al-Tekreeti last October and was raring to show against fifth-ranked featherweight Muay Thai star Luke Lessei that his loss then was not indicative of his potential.
It was Kouyate's sharp counter-striking abilities that would prove to be the difference between the two stars as he caught 'The Chef' lacking on defense late in the third round, landing a big uppercut that had Lessei stumbling, which prompted referee Olivier Coste to call off the bout.

To Lessei's credit, he was very much in the fight thanks to his aggression and ability to land major blows from awkward angles, but Kouyate was just the better man that night.
Bampara Kouyate felt perfectly prepared for his fight with Luke Lessei
One of the things that went against Kouyate in his bout with Al-Tekreeti is that it came on short notice, but he now had more than enough time to prep for the must-watch Lessei contest.
Bampara Kouyate spoke with Sportskeeda MMA prior to ONE Fight Night 23 and stated:
"But now, I would say I feel much better to have had the time to prepare very well with my trainer and my coach, and everything is perfect now."
