Guram Kutateladze was set to face Thiago Moises at UFC 283 in two weeks' time. However, the Georgian fighter has been forced to the sidelines due to a serious staph infection.
Also known as MRSA, a staph infection is a serious bacterial infection that should not be taken lightly. Kutateladze recently posted a video on Instagram showing the progress of the infection, which was located on his elbow, over several weeks.
The UFC lightweight fighter began taking a course of antibiotics in hopes that the infection would heal before UFC 283, but Kutateladze took to Instagram to announce that he was forced to pull out of the fight.
"Very unfortunate, I have a bad news, due to an injury (staph infection and inflammation in my elbow) I’m forced to cancel the fight once again. It’s an injury that happened in Dubai, during the training camp. I’m still nowadays taking strong medicine. We were hoping, that it would get better, but with only few weeks left to the fight I will not be healed properly."

Staph infections are notorious in both MMA and BJJ gyms if the hygiene protocols at said gyms are not followed.
The seriousness should not be understated, as BJJ phenom Craig Jones recently released a "Do's and Don'ts" video about the gym he owns alongside several other world-class BJJ practitioners called B-Team Jiu Jitsu. In the video, Jones mentioned that anyone who trains at their gym and attempts to hide the fact he has staph would immediately receive a lifetime ban.
Jones said the following:
"We have an issue where people try to train with skin infections... Never [hide it in training], you will get a lifetime ban. We ban people all the time."

What's next for Guram Kutateladze after cancellation at UFC 283?
Guram Kutateladze was forced to pull out of his scheduled fight at UFC 283 due to a staph infection. The Georgian fighter has a record of 1-1 in the promotion but has shown fantastic potential in those two fights.
The 'Georgian Viking' faced tough opponents in both fights and gave an impressive showing of himself. He defeated the No.7-ranked UFC lightweight Mateusz Gamrot in his promotional debut before losing to Damir Ismagulov.
Guram Kutateladze is no doubt hungry to enter the UFC's top 15, and a potential matchup with fellow rising contender Mark O. Madsen or Gregor Gillespie could help the Georgian's cause.
