Janet Todd looks to unify the division against at ONE on Prime Video 5

At ONE on Prime Video 5, interim atomweight Muay Thai world champion Janet Todd will get the chance to unify the division against Allycia Hellen Rodrigues, the reigning atomweight Muay Thai world champion who's back from her maternity leave. On Friday, December 2, Todd has the opportunity to write her name into the record books reserved for elite strikers.

If successful, Todd will become a full world champion in two different sports simultaneously as she currently holds the atomweight kickboxing belt also. In 2020, Todd pulled off the upset against Stamp Fairtex to avenge her loss and win her first world championship in ONE.

The opportunity to win another world title came in July this year, when after Allycia Hellen Rodrigues had been out of competition due to having a baby, an interim title was put on the line between Janet Todd and Lara Fernandez.

Ahead of Rodriguez’s return to competition, ONE Championship has posted a video of her opponent showcasing her speed on the heavy bag:

“I’m really fond of that woman” - Joseph Lasiri lauds ONE atomweight Muay Thai world champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues

ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion Joseph Lasiri has praised Allycia Hellen Rodrigues for putting her surging career on hold to focus on her family.

Rodrigues holds the women's equivalent to Lasiri’s world championship and she will defend it for the first time after two years away from competition at ONE on Prime Video 5. On December 2, Allycia Hellen Rodriguez will look to unify the titles against interim champion Janet Todd.

In light of Rodrigues’ announced return, Italian-Moroccan striker Joseph Lasiri, a family man himself, expressed his sincerest admiration for the young mother:

“For Allycia, I'm really fond of that woman because [we’re seeing] a 21-year-old woman win the title and be on top of her career and then come back in her life and accept a baby because it's the most important thing, to be a mom.”

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues shocked the world when she dethroned Stamp Fairtex on her debut in 2021. In what many believed would kick-off a new era for the division, with Rodrigues becoming a star in Muay Thai, the champion put her career on hold to start a family.

As she returns to the circle to carry on from where she left off, Joseph Lasiri admired her ability to take time out from the sport whilst being at the very top:

“Like for a woman to be a mom, and for a man to be a dad, and accept that even if you are on top of your career … this means you understand what work, love, and life means.”
