Former ONE strawweight MMA world champion 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks of the United States is very close to wearing ONE Championship gold around his waist once again. But the 31-year-old Mash Fight Team representative believes he's the best in the world, whether he has the belt or not.
It's hard to argue against that, as 'The Monkey God' has proven time and again that he's an absolute menace in the cage. In just a short period in ONE Championship, Brooks has taken out the most elite competition in his division, and there is no better example of his skills than his December 2022 showdown with Filipino rival 'The Passion' Joshua Pacio.
Brooks scored a unanimous decision over Pacio at ONE 164 to take the ONE strawweight MMA world title from the Filipino in front of his hometown fans in Manila.

Of course, Brooks and Pacio met earlier this year at ONE 166: Qatar and the rematch didn't exactly go as planned for 'The Monkey God.' The 31-year-old spiked his foe on his head, which is an illegal move in ONE Championship, and subsequently lost the fight via disqualification while giving up the strawweight belt in the process.
Luckily for Brooks, he will be up for the interim gold soon in Pacio's absence.

With reigning king Joshua Pacio out indefinitely due to an ACL tear, 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks will get the opportunity to become the ONE interim strawweight MMA world champion.
Brooks is set to take on Cuba's 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart for the honor in the main event of ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart on Prime Video, which broadcasts live from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
