Former ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Jonathan Haggerty is looking to become a two-time world champion by moving up to bantamweight to challenge for the belt. On April 21 at ONE Fight Night 9, 'The General' will lock horns with long-time ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Nong-O Hama.
It's a tough task for Jonathan Haggerty as he is slated to face perhaps the most dominant world champion in ONE Super Series history. Nong-O holds the record for the most consecutive world title defenses in ONE Super Series, with his last five coming by way of knockout.
Still, Haggerty is not letting intimidation get to him as he is looking locked in and focused in the gym.

One of Jonathan Haggerty's finest weapons is his powerful stepping elbow strike. He's used it to maximum effect against top-level opponents time and time again. Look to see Haggerty employ this technique with his trademark light footwork come ONE Fight Night 9.
Fans of Nong-O predict Jonathan Haggerty's fate come ONE Fight Night 9
It looks like fans of the great Nong-O Hama aren't giving Jonathan Haggerty any chance of winning on April 21st. In a photo posted by the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai kingpin on his Instagram, fans gave their two-cents on his English opponent.
Here's the photo:
Though fans admire Jonathan Haggerty's confidence to move up and challenge the consensus pound-for-pound best, they are highly critical of his inexperience in the weight class.
One fan wrote:
"[Jonathan] Haggertys only just moved up the weight class, he hasn’t even gone thru ramazanov, rodlek or anyone else at the top of the division and is going straight to face Nong O the goat. He couldn’t take body shots from rodtang. Not doubting him as a fighter but he has bitten off way more than he can chew 😂"
Another fan wrote:
"I'm not disrespecting Haggerty, I like him and always look forward to his fights. But I think Nong-O wins this fight easily. Haggerty won't be raking his power. I can see Nong-O making short work of Haggerty like he did Harrison."
A third fan predicted Nong-O finishing Haggerty in the same way the latter was finished by Rodtang at flyweight:
"Nong O win by body shot KO."
In our opinion, a body shot KO can be the worst case scenario for 'The General'. There's an eerie sense of similarity in how he last lost, with how Nong-O defeated his last opponent.
Nong-O knocked out Alaverdi Ramazanov at ONE Friday Fights 1 via body shots, similar to how ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champ Rodtang finished Haggerty years ago. This is something to look out for come ONE Fight Night 9.
