Harrison understands the value of a well-placed set-up and ferocious combination when you need them. His technique of turning an opponent's leg kick into a Superman punch and then a hook-leg kick combination is pure genius. Better start drilling this technique in the gym.
Liam Harrison shares how Muay Thai saved his life
Muay Thai has been instrumental in saving the lives of many people around the world, including Liam Harrison's.
The fighting Brit has spent his life as a martial artist, for which he is largely grateful. Without the Art of Eight Limbs, 'The Hitman' doesn't know where his life would have ended up. In a video released on his Instagram, the eight-time world champion explained:
"Obviously, I've grown up in a rough area where honestly not many people make it out. A lot of my friends have ended up in jail. While they were out in the streets getting up to all sorts, I was in the gym."
As a young man, spending all of his spare time in the gym helped Harrison avoid the lure of gangs on the streets. At the same time, however, many of his comrades were falling into bad company.
Harrison continued:
"In the gym at 13, 14. Then at 15, I started to get really serious with my training... And that's when most of my friends - some were like getting sent off to jail and they're on the brink of either going one way or the other. I totally left all that."
Today, the 37-year-old Muay Thai marvel has become one of the most revered Muay Thai athletes in the world. Harrison is a multi-time WBC Muay Thai world champion and competes on the global stage in ONE Championship.
Harrison shared his experience on Instagram:
"Lots to be thankful for from the life [Muay Thai] has given me."
