Seventeen-time BJJ world champion and ONE heavyweight phenom Marcus 'Buchecha' Almeida is one of the scariest men to entangle with on the ground. Once this Brazilian grappling specialist gets a hold of one of your limbs, the chances of you tapping out go from zero to near certainty.
What makes 'Buchecha' such a marvel in BJJ is his perfect combination of athleticism, technique, and most importantly, fight IQ. His understanding of distance, timing, and precision is second to none.
In a video recently uploaded to Almeida's Instagram account, we were treated to a throwback video of one of his jiu-jitsu competition matches. In the clip, 'Buchecha' perfectly timed his opponent's attempt to grab his lapel to change levels and go for a powerful single-leg takedown.

Ever since retiring from competitive jiu-jitsu after winning nearly every world title in the sport, Almeida has transitioned into MMA, where he's been dominating thus far. In his first two years, 'Buchecha' won all four of his bouts with a 100% finishing rate. Once he executed his trademark takedown, his opponents never got up and were subsequently finished on the ground. Look to see more of Almeida's powerful wrestling and constricting jiujitsu inside the cage for the foreseeable future.

Needless to say, the entire MMA world is holding its breath when the BJJ legend returns to action again. In a video posted on Almeida's Instagram page, we saw a highlight reel of his impressive work in ONE Championship, accompanied by a few motivational words:
"The only thing that falls from the sky is rain, the rest is fight! Let's go. There's already more. Looking forward to this year."

The immediate future of ONE's heavyweight division will be decided in a world title unification bout between heavyweight titleholder Arjan Bhullar and interim world champion Anatoly Malykhin. The two behemoths are expected to headline ONE Fight Night 8. Whoever wins this epic clash will surely be in Almeida's crosshairs if he wants to wear gold.
Though he's just 4-0 at the moment, Almeida absolutely blasted through his opponents like a steamroller. The domination he's exemplified in all his wins merits at least being in world title conversations. We'll wait and see what ONE's heavyweight division has in store for us in 2023.
