Mikey Musumeci explains how he coached himself early on in his career

The New Jersey native is quickly proving to be one of the top grapplers on the planet. With three consecutive wins under the ONE Championship banner, Musumeci seems to be unbeatable at this point in his career.

While he's now sharpening his skills at the renowned Evolve MMA in Singapore, Musumeci was his own coach early on in his career. He told Fightlore:

"I’ve trained with many great instructors because I lived in so many different places and I’m grateful for everyone that’s helped me. But I’ve kind of had the mindset since I was 14, 15 years old as my own coach, you know? I was always just pushing myself in training."

Musumeci added:

"I was just studying so many things, different videos on the computer. And I had my sister as well, and me and her would just train in the garage with each other every day. That definitely pushed me to evolve."

The four-time IBJJF World Champion received his black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu when he was just 18 years old. He's now widely considered to be arguably the best American-born BJJ practitioner in the world.

He, along with Danielle Kelly and the Ruotolo brothers, are doing wonders to garner more mainstream attention for the sport of submission grappling.

Be sure to check back with Sportskeeda for an announcement pertaining to Mikey Musumeci's next match, as he is always must-watch television.
