Mikey Musumeci is best-known for his incredible grappling skills, which have seen him become the inaugural ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion and a five-time IBJJF world champ.
Aside from that, one of his most-defining characteristics is his irregular eating habits. ‘Darth Rigatoni’ isn’t called that for fun, he practically lives off of pasta and pizza, burning off all the carbs by rolling on the mats for up to 12 hours per day.
Following his world championship defense over Gantumur Bayanduuren at ONE Fight Night 6, ONE Championship posted a video of Musumeci that showcases his extreme appetite.
Despite being one of the best grapplers in the world, you wouldn’t think that it would be possible considering his diet.

In the video, the champion fills a bowl full of rice, making it clear that he is still waiting on more, and then coats it in olive oil before diving in.
“Mikey Musumeci takes carb-loading seriously 😅”
Aung La N Sang, who was tagged in the video by ONE Championship after he filmed Musumeci at the table, commented on the post:
“@onechampionship you know who to call for your reels. 😉”
ONE kickboxing strawweight world champion Jonathan Di Bella also commented on the post:
“I’m doing this next fight 😂🇮🇹🤌🏼 @mikeymusumeci”
“It’s so interesting and awesome” - Mikey Musumeci on getting along with other ONE fighters from different sports
Through ONE’s progression into submission grappling, world-class grapplers like Mikey Musumeci are getting the opportunity to compete amongst elite fighters in other martial arts disciplines.
Whilst the ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion has a lot of experience sharing the mat with other jiu-jitsu champions, the ONE circle is home to the very best in MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing as well.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Musumeci spoke about his experiences competing under the ONE banner:
"It’s so interesting and awesome. We’re all from different sports but we’re all like together. It was so much fun. It was like we were kids in preschool and kindergarten playing games.”

Even with the possibility of competitors crossing over into new disciplines, there’s no tension between the athletes backstage. That family dynamic was a huge draw for Mikey Musumeci when it came to joining the promotion.
With the opportunity to potentially take himself out of his comfort zone or invite others into his world, a grappling matchup between the champion and ONE’s flyweight MMA world champ Demetrious Johnson was talked about during the ONE Fight Night 6 broadcast.
With Johnson on commentary and Musumeci defending his world championship against Gantumur Bayanduuren on the same night, it’s a potential matchup that got all the fans excited at the prospect of seeing them hit the mats.
