New Jersey's Musumeci has lived up to the hype since signing with ONE earlier in 2022. A perfect 2-0 thus far, the 26-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu star is already a champion.

As happy as Musumeci is to be ONE's flyweight submission grappling world champ, the rising star is equally ecstatic to help the sport gain the recognition that it deserves.

He, along with the Ruotolo brothers, Danielle Kelly, and others, are helping to bring more mainstream attention to the sport of submission grappling.

Mikey Musumeci speaks on jiu-jitsu receiving recogntion

'Darth Rigatoni' has been competing at the professional level since he was 21 years old. He's just recently receiving the recognition that he surely deserves.

After winning the flyweight belt at ONE on Prime Video 2, Musumeci commented on the sport getting more attention, saying:

"I remember telling all my friends [that] all five times that I won [in] black belt [during] worlds was still like 10% of the publicity and recognition you get for winning one match in ONE. So it just tells you how big this platform is, and what they're doing for the athletes. You know, we all work so hard and train so hard."

Mikey Musumeci continued:

"So all these athletes deserve this recognition for how hard they train. And ONE is giving us a platform that we deserve. I'm just so thankful to be on this platform, and I thank Chatri so much for this opportunity.”

ONE Championship has undoubtedly contributed to the rise in submission grappling's popularity. Giving these great athletes the platform to showcase their skills on the global stage has yielded more and more fans.
