If you want to see what brutal things leg locks can do to your knees, watch the submission grappling match between Mikey Musumeci and Gantumur Bayanduuren. The bout, which was one of three world title bouts featured in ONE Fight Night 6, was for Musumeci's ONE flyweight submission grappling belt.

Right from the opening bell, Musumeci went into his usual attack mode. After a brief reset in the middle of the Circle, 'Darth Rigatoni' trapped one of Bayanduuren's arms but then transitioned to a leglock once the Mongolian grappler escaped the initial arm trap.

What Mikey Musumeci did to Bayanduuren's knee afterwards was so brutal, it turned our stomachs a few times.

The American BJJ blackbelt locked in his signature 'Mikey Lock', putting the Mongolian's foot in painful positions. After Bayanduuren toughed his way out of the hold, 'Darth Rigatoni' swiftly switched geers and applied various kneebars and heel hooks.

At certain moments in the bout, we saw Bayanduuren's knee completely twisted out of alignment. Our years of watching submission grappling matches never prepared us to bear such a sight. And yet, the tough Mongolian never tapped - he never even flinched. Mikey Musumeci himself was seen looking at the crowd in utter confusion and disbelief at Bayanduuren's mettle.

While Musumeci earned a clear unanimous decision victory, the bigger story was Bayanduuren's dead-eyed, unflinching sense of toughness.

Mikey Musumeci spoke about Gantumur Bayanduuren's refusal to tap

In his post-fight interview inside the Circle, Mikey Musumeci was immediately asked by Mitch Chilson about his thoughts on Gantumur Bayanduuren's refusal to tap to his leglocks.

Musumeci said:

"His [Bayanduuren's] leg popped like 20 times, I never felt someone's legs go like that. But he didn't tap so the fight kept going on."

Chilson then asked Musumeci about his tendency to go into "tunnel vision" in a particular move, which was quite evident in the match. Mikey Musumeci replied with:

"Usually I get tunnel vision on the move and then I get stuck there. But this time is like it kept popping. So I felt like, ‘How do I let go of a submission that keeps popping?' But I should have let go faster and gone to the back like I did eventually."

We can't blame Musumeci for hyper-focusing on the leg locks in this fight since they were causing Bayanduuren's knee to pop multiple times already. A normal person would have already tapped and shouted in pain after the first leg lock. Not Bayanduuren, however.
