'The King of the North' survived an early onslaught from the Thai icon in the opening round, where he suffered a beating of his lead leg from the signature kicks of Nong-O.
But he was able to recover and turned the tide in the second stanza as Carrillo countered Nong-O's vicious kicks with the power of his punches. Carrillo hurt Nong-O in the first minute of the round with several combinations.
The 26-year-old contender landed the knockout blow halfway into the round, where he connected an atomic left elbow that made the 38-year-old veteran unable to continue.
Nico Carrillo says experience is his secret to his elite confidence in fighting
After that win over Nong-O, the Deachkalek Muay Thai Academy representative added Saemapetch Fairtex to his victim list to finally earn a shot at the world title at ONE 170 on Jan. 24 against reigning two-sport and two-division world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ahead of his first crack at the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title, Carrillo had an interview on the Leather'd Podcast and shared his secret to his confidence while fighting, stating:
"It comes with experience. I've been doing it since I was 15. So you just get used to it."
