Veteran Australian fighter Reece McLaren hacked out a hard-earned decision victory over American Jarred Brooks in their MMA clash last week. He, however, made attempts to go for a finish through the course of the contest, including by way of a nifty D'Arce choke.

It took place late in the third and final round of their flyweight MMA clash at ONE Fight Night 26: Lee vs. Rasulov on Dec. 6 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Following a spirited back-and-forth in the first two and a half rounds of their three-rounder, 'Lightning' found himself in a position to execute a D'Arce choke on his already-bloodied opponent and went for it, nearly chalking up a finish.

While Brooks managed to wiggle himself out of the choke, it proved to be the difference in McLaren's securing the split decision victory.

ONE Championship posted an Instagram post with a video of the D'Arce choke that Reece McLaren attempted on Brooks for fans to look back on.

The win at ONE Fight Night 26 was the second straight for McLaren, who was also a split decision winner in his previous fight against Hu Yong of China back in May. It also enhanced his chances of getting a shot at the currently vacant ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title.

For his part, Brooks, who is the interim strawweight MMA world champion, saw his first attempt at competing in flyweight spoiled. He dropped to a 5-3 record since joining ONE Championship in November 2021.

Jarred Brooks wants a rematch with Reece McLaren

While he lost to Reece McLaren in their barnburner of a match last week at ONE Fight Night 26, Jarred Brooks is unbowed by it and, in fact, would love to run it back with 'Lightning' at some point.

Despite going a weight class higher than his traditional lane of strawweight. 'The Monkey God' still made a good account of himself against a bigger opponent, narrowly losing by split decision.

In a post-fight Instagram post, Brooks reflected on his performance against Reece McLaren, the outcome of the match, and his desire to have a rematch, writing:

"Went up a weight class at 135 to try for greatness short notice, my head is held high I thought I did great for short notice against someone that deserve a title shot short notice. I'm not afraid of anyone in fact I would love to run it back after I defend my title here soon!! No losses just lessons! We always stay winning baby!! @pantoja_oficial ain't got s**t on this 25er."

Brooks went up to flyweight last time around to challenge for the flyweight world title and try to become a double champion.
