Superlek etched another milestone in his illustrious career with a stunning 49-second demolition of Haggerty at ONE 168: Denver this past September. The victory enshrined him as a two-sport, two-division world champion.
‘The Kicking Machine’ needed less than a round to dismantle his British opponent. As Haggerty launched a straight right, Superlek masterfully ducked under and uncorked a counter elbow, sending ‘The General’ crashing to the canvas.
Although Haggerty valiantly attempted to recover, he was unable to beat the referee’s count, handing Superlek a spectacular knockout victory and the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title to go along with his flyweight kickboxing crown.
Before this showdown, Haggerty had defended the bantamweight Muay Thai strap in style, authoring a third-round highlight-reel knockout against Felipe Lobo at ONE Fight Night 19 in February.
Despite early adversity in that bout, Haggerty rallied with grit and precision to seal a memorable win.
Meanwhile, Takeru Segawa put his resilience on full display at ONE Friday Fights 81 in September. Overcoming an early knockdown, the Japanese superstar rallied to stop Thant Zin in the second round of their flyweight kickboxing clash, showcasing his trademark never-say-die spirit.
Takeru Segawa and Jonathan Haggerty booked for high-profile matches in 2025
Both Jonathan Haggerty and Takeru Segawa are slated for separate marquee matchups in early 2025.
Haggerty will defend his ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title against China’s Wei Rui in the main event of ONE 171 on Feb. 20 at the Lusail Sports Arena in Qatar.
On the other hand, Takeru is set to finally square off with Rodtang Jitmuangnon in a five-round kickboxing tilt, headlining ONE 172 on March 23 at Japan’s iconic Super Saitama Arena.
