At first glance, one may think that they’re watching Angela’s younger sister, Victoria, fight Hills. After all, Angela was only nineteen in this fight, and Victoria is eighteen at the time of this writing.
The Lee family has an incredible base in grappling, and that’s obvious starting with the powerful sweep that Angela hit on Natalie. The reversal set up a sequence of positional dominance for Lee, flowing from half-guard to side control to the full mount.
It was in a scramble as Hills tried to buck Lee off that Angela was able to take the back of Hills and work towards the twister lock. The spine-torquing submission came officially at 2:24 of the first round.
Angela Lee “not being hard on herself” after loss to Xiong
The next Lee sibling up to bat is ONE lightweight world champion Christian Lee, who fights in the main event of ONE on Prime Video 4 on November 18.
In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Christian Lee gave an update on Angela Lee’s attitude after the fight her title fight with Xiong Jingnan:
"I'm glad to see that Angela has been in good spirits, she hasn't really let it bring her down. From what I can see, it hasn't affected her too much. And I think she knows that she fought as hard as she could have. And you can't really control what the judges are going to think, and whose hand they're going to raise when it goes to a decision."
Lee continued to add,
"I think from what I can see, she's at peace with it. And I'm glad that she's not being hard on herself. Because she has so much heart and skill in that fight. I think we're all proud of her."
Given the incredibly close decision that decided the thrilling fight, it’s true that Angela Lee has nothing to be ashamed of. The two women have proved to be the two best female MMA fighters in ONE Championship, so it’s not hard to imagine the two facing each other again.
Xiong is currently ahead 2-1 in their trilogy of fights, each one for a world title, and in each one, the defending world champion successfully defended their belt.
