The incredible news was the perfect way for Dober to wrap up 2022. The Nebraska native had a successful year inside the octagon.
Dober's first outing for 2022 was against Terrance McKinney in March. In a back-and-forth slugfest, Dober scored a first-round finish via TKO.
In his second encounter of the year, Dober took on Rafael Alves at UFC 277. Dober does not know how to be in a boring fight, and that was proven once again on July 30. He landed a vicious body shot on Alves in the third round, earning him a TKO victory. Dober also received a 'Performance of the Night' bonus worth $50,000 for that knockout.
To close out the year, Dober went up against fellow veteran Bobby Green at UFC Fight Night 216, the promotion's last fight event of 2022.
The 5-foot-8 mixed martial artist got pieced up by Green early in the fight. But Dober made a comeback and scored a brutal knockout against 'King' in the second round.
The contest was declared 'Fight of the Night,' and both fighters took home an additional cheque of $50,000.
Drew Dober speaks on the possibility of fighting UFC's rising star Paddy Pimblett
After his victory over Bobby Green, Drew Dober made an appearance on Ariel Helwani's The MMA Hour. During his time there, Dober discussed a potential matchup with the promotion's rising star Paddy Pimblett.
Dober said he was open to fighting 'The Baddy' but was not very optimistic about the UFC making that fight. Breaking down the matchup, the Nebraska native claimed he would knock the Liverpudlian out if the two ever shared an octagon.
"He's [Paddy Pimblett] a cash cow. He's somebody that they're gonna wanna try to keep in the UFC for as long as possible, and I'm notorious for killing hypes... He leaves his chin up there way too long. His jiu-jitsu is a problem for sure...and so he might win this first round, but I will find his chin," said Drew Dober.
