Aung La N Sang has remained one of the most synonymous fighters with ONE Championship brand, and for good reason. 'The Burmese Python' has been involved in some of the grittiest, most stirring battles in the promotion and is a former two-division world champion.

Before he writes the next chapter of his career this Saturday at ONE 163, relive one of the most important from his storied career- when he took on Filipino wrecking ball and veteran Brandon “The Truth” Vera.

The fight went down as the main event of ONE: Century Part 2 in 2019, after Vera earned a title shot on the strength of a four-fight win streak.

Aung La N Sang was looking to defend his light heavyweight title for the second time against Vera.

The fight was an absolute barn-burner and Vera clearly came ready to knock Aung La out. However, a right hook in round two was the shot that sent Vera stumbling to the canvas.

With the win, Aung La won his seventh consecutive world title fight in ONE Championship and solidified his grip on two weight classes.

'The Burmese Python' will hope to return to winning ways once again on Saturday when he fights durable Japanese veteran Yushin Okami at ONE 163. Having dropped a decision to Vitaly Bigdash in his last outing, Aung La is hungry to get a win, and a fight with Okami is a respected name to re-enter that conversation.

Aung La N Sang sees a win over Yushin Okami as a ticket back to the middleweight title

With Reinier de Ridder- Aung La’s nemesis- still holding his old belts at middleweight and light heavyweight, he’s eager to forge a path back to redemption.

He sees the notoriety of beating Yushin Okami as exactly what’s needed to start that journey. In an interview with ONE Championship, Aung La spoke about his hopes for the fight and how it could impact his career:

"I’ve been working on my weaknesses, and I think this fight is going to be a great fight for me to rebound and be on the right path in my attempt to get my [middleweight] title back."

With Okami coming off a win in his last fight, he likely could be seeing this fight in the same way - a compelling argument to fight the world champ de Ridder.

Aung La N Sang trains at Kill Cliff FC in Florida, a massive team with dozens of elite-level fighters to work with. He no doubt has plenty of eyes to give him feedback and help him correct the parts of his game that need improvement.
