For the first time since becoming the WBC lightweight champion, Shakur Stevenson will take the ring to defend his title against former Olympic bronze medalist Artem Harutyanyan. With his 21-0 record, Stevenson is a 30-1 favorite to retain his belt.
While Stevenson became a two-division champion in November 2023 with a win over Edwin De Los Santos, fans were unimpressed by his performance. Harutyanyan, who turned professional shortly after the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, began his career 12-0 but suffered his first loss in July 2023 to recent title challenger Frank Martin.
The two lightweights will meet on July 5 broadcasted live on ESPN through Top Rank Boxing.

As the heavy favorite, AI projections favor Stevenson's technicality over Harutyanyan's power and aggression. The AI is impressed with the champion's footwork and speed which have led to the 27-year-old's continuous success.
However, even considering Stevenson's dominance, the AI believes Harutyanyan will not be as out-gunned as the odds suggest.
The projection highlights Harutyanyan's aggression as potentially giving Stevenson trouble. However, the AI ends its segment by noting that it still favors the champion while believing the fight will be "exciting."
