“We just leave it at the gym” - Freddie Haggerty shares how he separates professional and personal relationship with his father/coach 

Balancing a personal and professional relationship can be challenging for most. However, for the British fighter Freddie Haggerty and his father and coach, this dynamic is one that the pair has mastered over the years.

In a recent interview with Goated Combat, Freddie talks about growing up in the gym, juggling a full-time job with prizefighting, and how his relationship with his father works given their dual roles.

Asked about whether there's more pressure having his dad as his trainer, the 20-year-old speaks of their ability to compartmentalize as their key to success:

"No, I wouldn't say so. Me and my dad got a great relationship. But say if we're training and we'd have a little argument, we don't take it home. We just leave it at the gym. We get on with it. People argue, just get over. It's my dad at the end of the day."

"I am very tired" - Freddie Haggerty powers through rough training camp for the toughest fight yet

As the brother of the reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion Jonathan Haggerty, Freddie is no stranger to the demands of high-level competition.

However, the preparation for his debut on the grand stage has brought its own challenges:

"Believe me, I am very tired, but you just gotta keep that poker face. So you get used to it, you get used to it in the ring and it'll come naturally. But yeah, Jack [Lamai Muay Thai coach] kills me every day."

Freddie Haggerty is set to face promotional newcomer Jordan Estupinan as the curtain-opener for ONE 170, which will take place in the Impact Arena in Bangkok on Jan. 24.
