Though things didn't turn out the way he'd hoped, Jonathan Haggerty is still grateful for the opportunity to step inside the Circle with Superlek Kiatmoo9. Heading to Ball Arena in The Mile High City — Denver, Colorado — 'The General' put his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title on the line against Superlek in one of the most anticipated headliners of the year.
Unfortunately for Haggerty, their ONE 168 clash would come to a crashing halt after 'The Kicking Machine' connected with a perfectly timed counter elbow less than 60 seconds into the scrap.
The blow would send Haggerty crashing to the canvas, bringing an abrupt end to their title tilt.

While Haggerty still believes he would have come out on top in a longer fight, he's refusing to focus on the 'what if' and choosing to chalk the whole thing up as a learning experience.
"If we had gone a few rounds, it would’ve been a tough night for Superlek," Haggerty told ONE Championship. "But we move on and we learn from the experience.”
Jonathan Haggerty defends his kickboxing crown against Wei Rui at ONE 171 in Qatar
Jonathan Haggerty may have lost his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title that night, but 'The General' still has one more belt to defend.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, Haggerty will head to the Lusail Sports Arena in Qatar to defend his ONE bantamweight kickboxing crown against the division's top-ranked contender Wei Rui at ONE 171.
Wei earned his title opportunity in May with an impressive unanimous decision victory over former ONE world champion Hiroki Akimoto at ONE Fight Night 22. Overall, 'Demon Blade' is an incredible 70-3 in his career and has already captured titles under the GLORY of Heroes, Wu Lin Feng, and K-1 banners.
Will the Chinese superstar add 26 pounds of ONE Championship gold to his resume, or will Jonathan Haggerty remind the world why he's considered one of the greatest P4P strikers on the planet?
ONE 171 will emanate from the Lusail Sports Arena in Qatar on Thursday, Feb. 20. Early bird tickets are now available via ONE Championship’s official website.
