Former two-division ONE MMA world champion Aung La N Sang believes self-motivation would go a long way in enjoying martial arts and succeeding in it. It is something he is trying to foster with his children so as not for them to feel they are being forced to do an activity.
'The Burmese Python' touched on this aspect of his parenting style in a recent interview with ONE Championship, highlighting how force-feeding martial arts to anyone could actually backfire.
The former ONE middleweight and light heavyweight MMA world champion said:
"I think people often get burned out when they're forced to do it. They're forced to do it and they don't really want to do it, right? We're more nurturing the side of wanting to get better. We're nurturing them in a way where they don't get burned out. And that to me is very important.

"I don't want the motivation to come from the external. I want it to come from internal."
While still actively competing, Aung La N Sang, 39, is also overseeing the growth of his sons as martial artists, anchored not only on developing their skills but also their attitude when competing.
Aung La N Sang returns to action at ONE 168
Aung La N Sang returns to competition after more than a year at ONE 168 in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. on Sept. 6. He is going up against Turkish fighter Shamil Erdogan in a fetaured middleweight MMA bout.
The fight will be the Kill Cliff FC standout's first since his last fight in May last year, also in Colorado, where he turned the tables on Fan Rong of China to win by submission in the second round.
Aung La N Sang is currently riding a three-fight winning streak and positioning himself for another run at the ONE middleweight world title he once held.
Meanwhile, out to clip Aung La's winning run is Erdogan, who made a successful ONE debut, also over Fan, in June 2023.
ONE 168 will emanate from the Ball Arena in Denver and air live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription. Tickets for the event are sold on Ticketmaster.
