ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Jonathan Haggerty is excited to see new-generation fighters emanating from the United Kingdom. Like him, he wants them to make their way and compete in ONE Championship.

The 27-year-old Orpington, England native shared this in an interview with the South China Morning Post ahead of his scheduled return to action at ONE 168 in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. on Sept. 6.

Jonathan Haggerty touted the presence of talented up-and-coming fighters from the U.K. who could be an asset for ONE, including his brother Freddie, who joined him in the promotion earlier this year.

'The General' said:

"We got some young generation fighters coming up. We've got Alfie Ponting. Yeah, it'd be great, just get loads of UK fighters on ONE Championship. Amy Pirnie. She's a great fighter, she shows some extraordinary techniques and amazing knockouts. She's exciting. I can't wait to see her back in action."

He added about his brother:

"Yeah, that'll be great fight with Johan [Ghazali], but Fred's got a little bit more building to do."

Jonathan Haggerty will be defending the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title for the second time at ONE 168 against flyweight kickboxing king Superlek Kiatmoo9 in an all-champion super fight. He retained the belt in his last fight in February, defeating Brazilian challenger Felipe Lobo by TKO in the third round.

Superlek, who is climbing a weight division higher to become a double world champion, is looking to cut his reign short. He is riding a huge momentum, having won his last 10 matches heading into the contest.

ONE 168: Denver will take place at the Ball Arena, and air live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription. Tickets for the event are available for purchase on Ticketmaster.

Jonathan Haggerty says Superlek is right not to underestimate him ahead of ONE 168

Jonathan Haggerty said Superlek Kiatmoo9 is right not to underestimate him ahead of their super title fight at ONE 168: Denver on Sept. 6. He said many opponents dared to take him lightly in the past and paid for it.

'The General' touched on this in the same interview with the South China Morning Post as he talked about his scheduled title defense against the reigning ONE flyweight kickboxing king.

He said:

"I really think Superlek's not underestimating me. It'd be silly to. People have done that before, and look what happened."

Jonathan Haggerty has won his last six matches heading into ONE 168: Denver, the last three all seeing him figure in world title matches.
