He was noticeably heavy for the matchup, lacking in fitness, for which he was criticized. Thereafter, he took a one-year hiatus before returning with a win against Chris Arreola in 2021.

He then fought again, once, in 2022, beating Luis Ortiz, and hasn't fought since, with his upcoming bout with Jarrell Miller being his first in two years.

Back in April, Andy Ruiz Jr. faced allegations of sexual assault, battery, and more. His accuser was his ex-girlfriend Julia Lemus, who lobbied various abuse allegations against the former heavyweight champion. Among Ruiz's alleged actions was aiming an AK-47, an assault rifle, at her.

This, Lemus claimed, was done to her after she expressed concern over the purchase of a firearm Ruiz had made. Moreover, she alleged Ruiz had jokingly punched her and sexually assaulted her. While Ruiz denied the allegations, he was handed a three-year restraining order, which Lemus can renew at any point.

According to the conditions of the restraining order, Ruiz is to maintain at least 100 yards between him and Lemus, her workplace, home, and vehicle. He was also barred from owning firearms and had to attend a 12-week anger management course.

Perhaps the most severe condition, though, is that Lemus was given full custody of their two children, with Ruiz retaining supervised visitation rights.
