Vanessa Hanson reflects on her journey to the UFC

In a 2015 interview with Maxim, UFC ring girl Vanessa Hanson talked about how she got into the UFC.

Hanson rose to prominence after winning Transworld Surf's 2011 UFC Model Search, which led to a special appearance as an octagon girl at UFC 136. She continued to pursue her modeling career but this signaled the start of her career as a ring girl. She said:

''It was really random actually. They actually found me at the beach; they had a booth for the US Open of surfing and were looking for girls. The girls that I was with entered and made me enter. I got a call three months later. I had no idea about the UFC at all.''

The 33-year-old also stated that Ronda Rousey and Robbie Lawler are her favorite fighters.

''His fights are just really action-packed. His bout against [Rory] MacDonald was the craziest fight ever.”

Hanson joined Strikeforce as a ring card girl after reaching this milestone. Her official transformation into an octagon girl took place in 2013, when she made her debut at The Ultimate Fighter season 17 finale, marking a significant turning point in her journey to the multi-billion dollar promotion.
