Gilbert Burns has not competed since suffering a third-round knockout loss to Jack Della Maddalena on the main card of UFC 299 despite being just over a minute away from a win. Meanwhile, Sean Brady last entered the octagon at UFC on ESPN 52 when he defeated Kelvin Gastelum via third-round submission.
The two top-10 ranked welterweight contenders are reportedly set to clash in a five-round main event at the UFC Apex later this year. Marcel Dorff of Eurosport broke the news on Wednesday, tweeting:
"Gilbert Burns will fight Sean Brady at #UFCVegas97 on September 7th. (first rep. @MagicM_MMABets ) #UFC #MMA #UFCESPN #UFC2024 #MainEvent"

Gilbert Burns wishes Khamzat Chimaev a speedy recovery
Gilbert Burns shared the octagon with Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273 back in 2022, losing the closely contested bout via unanimous decision. Amidst 'Borz's' ongoing health issues that forced him to withdraw from his main event bout at UFC on ABC 6 last weekend, 'Durinho' reached out wishing him a speedy recovery.
The No.6-ranked welterweight responded to a photo of his past opponent in the hospital, stating:
"Wow wishing @KChimaev a speedy recovery for whatever he is having now! God bless you! 🙌🏾 🙏🏾"

Chimaev was forced to pull out of a potential title eliminator against Robert Whittaker, which also would have marked the first main event of his UFC career, with an undisclosed illness. It is unclear when the No.11-ranked middleweight, who has fought just once in the past 21 months, will return to the octagon.
