"Australia doesn't have good wrestling" - Makhachev takes dig at Volkanovski ahead of UFC 284
In a hilarious moment from an interview with Daniel Cormier, Islam Makhachev took a dig at Alexander Volkanovski's wrestling. The Dagestani managed to make his teammate Cormier burst into a fit of laughter with his one-liners.
Makhachev said:
"[Volkanovski] can say, 'I'm going to stop his wrestling, [he is] not going to take me down.' But, brother, Australia [doesn't] have [good] wrestling. That's why I don't care. If you [have] good wrestling, and you have good defense, [why can't] you go, brother, [to the] Olympic [Games] for Australia?"
Makhachev's dig had 'DC' in splits and Volkanovski couldn't help but laugh himself. The featherweight champion responded:
"As you said, this is MMA. We all know your hope is to try and grab a hold of me and hold me down. If that doesn't work in your favor, we know how uncomfortable you're going to be."
