Islam Makhachev usually cuts down a lot of weight before his fights to stay within the lightweight limit. An old video showcased how Alistair Overeem once made Makhachev's gruesome weight cut even more difficult by eating before him.
The video was over four years old when Overeem was still an active competitor in the UFC's heavyweight division. It highlighted the stark difference between the weight-cutting routine of heavyweights and the fighters of other weight divisions in the UFC.
Makhachev could be seen in his weight-cutting week for his UFC Saint Petersburg fight against Arman Tsarukyan in the video. The event took place on April 20, 2019. Makhachev was on a strict diet to reduce his weight and get it within the lightweight limit of 155lbs. However, just like most heavyweights don't cut weight for their fights, Overeem also continued with his usual diet even during the fight week.
The Instagram video posted by @espnmma showcased how Overeem enjoyed his meal before Makhachev, which had the Dagestani giving out a few words of displeasure. Makhachev said:

The rematch of Islam Makhachev's UFC Saint Petersburg fight is scheduled to take place after almost six years
Islam Makhachev wasn't that big of a name during the time of his fight at UFC Saint Petersburg in 2019. In the subsequent years, he climbed up the ladder of ranks to finally claim the UFC lightweight gold in 2022.
Makhachev is currently gearing up for his next fight at UFC 311, which is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2025. However, the rival he will be facing on that night will be Arman Tsarukyan, the same fighter he fought at UFC Saint Petersburg in April 2019. The UFC 311 main event is set to be a unique fight that will feature a rematch after almost six years of the initial encounter.
Makhachev got his hand raised in the initial encounter via unanimous decision. He is confident about repeating his feat in the upcoming rematch as well.
