Elon Musk once told Joe Rogan why his Twitter acquisition could almost inevitably spell trouble. The SpaceX founder purchased the microblogging platform for $44 billion in October 2022 and rebranded it as X in July 2023.

During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience in November 2023, Musk was queried about his first year at the helm of the social media giant and what inspired him to make the bold purchase. The 53-year-old billionaire shared that, while it might sound dramatic, he took over X because he truly believed the platform was harming the very fabric of society:

"Well, it's certainly a recipe for trouble, I suppose, or contention... I mean, this is going to sound somewhat melodramatic, but I was worried that it was having a corrosive effect on civilization, that it was just having a bad impact. And I think part of it is that it's where it was located, which is downtown San Francisco."

He added:

"And while I think San Francisco is a beautiful city and we should really fight hard to kind of right the ship of San Francisco if you've walked around right near the X/Twitter headquarters, it's a zombie apocalypse. I mean, it's rough."

After Musk finalized the acquisition of X, the platform became embroiled in controversy. He reduced the workforce by approximately 75%, dismantled policies that prohibited hate speech and disinformation, alienated numerous advertisers and users, and saw a significant financial decline.

Joe Rogan claims Elon Musk's X purchase took on leftist control of narrative

During a recent episode of his acclaimed podcast, Joe Rogan commended Elon Musk for acquiring X, asserting that the move disrupted what he described as the supposed leftist control over public information.

Rogan stated that Musk's takeover of X marked a pivotal shift in how tech giants such as Google and Facebook (Meta) previously handled information and free speech:

"They're businesses and enormous businesses, but they're super left-wing. Not just super left-wing, but 'super woke' left-wing, which is the craziest version of it. There's no room for negotiation. Anybody who disagrees is a fascist. It gets real weird."

He added:

"You're getting connected with an infinite number of ideas that are constantly coming your way. And it's almost all in the hands of left-wing [companies]. The left-wing party is Google, it's Facebook, it's all these companies that have massive power. And until Elon stepped in and bought Twitter, there was no counter to that. It was just one side."
