Francis Ngannou, in the past, strongly condemned Donald Trump for the derogatory remarks made by the former United States president about African nations.

In January 2018, during a closed-door meeting, Trump allegedly referred to several countries, including Haiti and various African nations, as "sh*t thole" countries. This controversial comment sparked widespread outrage, and Ngannou labeled Trump as "the shame of America."

Hailing from Cameroon, Ngannou's feelings about Trump's comments were deeply personal. Speaking in an interview with MMA Fighting, he articulated his discontent, stating:

"This guy [Trump] is the shame of America. America is a country [built out of] immigration. America is the country that poor people in countries looking for, they don’t expect America to give them something, but just to look at them like an example to get a better situation. This country has been doing great with last president, like Barack Obama, people like Martin Luther King, people who had to work for that. Today we have people like Donald trump who come out and bring all that down. So it’s a shame.”

UFC CEO Dana White, despite his connection with Trump, acknowledged the diversity of opinions within the sport and emphasized that he does not impose his political beliefs on UFC fighters. He stated:

"I’m not even a political guy. I don’t go near politics in any way, shape or form. But obviously the relationship with Trump and I makes it different. And the beautiful thing about this country is anyone can have an opinion. And, yes, I would expect Francis’ opinion to be negative, and a lot of other people’s."

Francis Ngannou reveals potential opponent for boxing return after MMA fight against Renan Ferreira

Despite succumbing to two losses in the boxing ventures following his exit from the UFC, Francis Ngannou is determined to test himself in the ring again. Ngannou signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) in May 2023 after parting ways with the UFC, with the prospect of pursuing his boxing interest.

He faced WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in his boxing debut, delivering a shocking performance by dropping Fury but ultimately losing a controversial split decision. Ngannou's second boxing match against Anthony Joshua ended with a swift knockout loss in the second round. He is scheduled to take on Renan Ferreira next under the PFL banner on Oct. 19 at PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants.

In a recent interview with MMA club, Ngannou expressed interest in fighting Deontay Wilder or potentially rematching Fury, stating:

“I don’t have a name now [who I would like to fight]. I think it depends on the landscape [when I return] but why not a name like [Deontay] Wilder or a rematch with Fury? I don’t know. I am down for everything that makes sense. He [Wilder] is a very good name that I would be interested in.” [H/t: Boxing Club]
