When Joe Rogan and Khabib Nurmagomedov agreed that talented fighters are cursed: "They don't develop that mental game"

Joe Rogan invoked the words and ideology of Khabib Nurmagomedov when speaking on a podcast with David Goggins about mental strength.

On episode 1906 of the Joe Rogan Experience, the titular figure was speaking with David Goggins who is a retired Navy SEAL, public speaker, and popular motivational online personality. He is also an author as Goggins released his book 'Never Finished: Unshackle Your Mind and Win the War Within' which he was promoting on JRE before it dropped on December 6, 2022.

Several subjects were covered amid this throwback chat and the former undefeated MMA fighter and dominant former lightweight champion Nurmagomedov was mentioned when Rogan and Goggins were chatting.

When speaking about how sometimes talent in the world of fighting can be a curse and how the talented sometimes don't work as hard, Joe Rogan said:

"Khabib Nurmagomedov talks about that and he's one of the greatest mixed martial arts fighters of all time. One of the rare guys to retire undefeated but he's like talented guys don't work hard enough. The problem with talented guys is they can get by early. They're like faster than people."

He added:

"Maybe they just have a better understanding or better coordination. We're not even. Like people are not even in their abilities when it comes to sports. Some people are just very gifted but gifted fighters in particular, there's something about it where a lot of them never realize their full potential. Because they don't develop that mental game."

Joe Rogan and when he recently touted the dedication of Khabib

Joe Rogan is someone who continues to show admiration for Khabib Nurmagomedov in the 19 some-odd months since speaking to Goggins about the former UFC lightweight champion.

The UFC commentator also spoke to decorated MMA pioneer Royce Gracie a few weeks back on JRE MMA Show #156 and Nurmagomedov was touched on within their discussions.

The 56-year-old was talking to the multi-time UFC tournament champion about Khabib, while mentioning the dominant Dagestani fighter's advice to young fighters.

Gracie also touted the discipline of Dagestan-based fighters and said their success goes far beyond their proficient grappling games. The UFC 1 standout stated how there's no partying or time spent on romantic relationships for those combatants and that their whole focus is centric on refinement within mixed martial arts.
