When Joe Rogan overlooked legends like Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali to name Vasiliy Lomachenko the best boxer ever

Nearly a decade ago, Joe Rogan highlighted Ukrainian legend Vasiliy Lomachenko as the greatest-ever boxer. He said as much on episode #952 of the Joe Rogan Experience, during which he spoke to renowned author Thaddeus Russell and sang Lomachenko's praises.

Rogan, a noted fan of combat sports in every sense, is no stranger to 'The Sweet Science'. However, it is certainly a hot take to hail Lomachenko as the greatest boxer in history over the likes of Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, and even Mike Tyson.

The UFC commentator though, wasn't the only one who felt similarly, as his guest also crowned Lomachenko the best ever. And Rogan couldn't agree more"

"I just can't come up with a comparable... I mean, there's been some amazing boxers way back to Sugar Ray Robinson and Willie Pep and all those guys paved the way. But I feel like everything evolves. Every combat sport, even art, music, evolves to the current state it's at now, which you get the best of the best right now and you go, 'Wow, they've learned from [Muhammad] Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins.' And [Vasiliy] Lomachenko is, in my eyes, the best."

Rogan continued his praise of Lomachenko, marveling at the Ukrainian's technical skill and deep toolbox. While Lomachenko is often praised for his skill level and well-rounded game, hailing him as the best-ever is a fairly unpopular opinion, as the aforementioned Robinson and Ali typically dominate the conversation.

Joe Rogan previously highlighted Floyd Mayweather as the best of all-time

On episode #79 of the JRE MMA Show, Joe Rogan conversed with multi-time Muay Thai champion Liam Harrison and fellow combat sports commentator Vinny Shoreman.

As the three men discussed the art of boxing, the UFC commentator spoke glowingly of Floyd Mayweather:

"I mean, people, just because of the fact that he won decisions by playing it safe, people don't get excited for about him and don't recognize him with the all-time greats. He's the best ever."

It is hard to argue against Mayweather's place in the history book of boxing, as he is undefeated and beat countless world champions throughout the years. Whether he is the best ever, though, remains subject to debate.
