A multitude of Herb Dean comparisons popped up when commenting on a viral Power Slap knockout. At Power Slap 6, Vernon Cathey slumped Delvin Hamlett over the table during their heavyweight matchup. The clip was shared again ahead of Power Slap 8 on Friday with many comparisons being drawn between Hamlett and tenured MMA referee, Dean.
These popped up from several combat sports enthusiasts on the Power Slap/ UFC dual Instagram post in question.

Herb Dean and his background in combat sports
While he has not taken part in Power Slap, Herb Dean does have professional mixed martial arts experience to his credit.
The 53-year-old made his debut as a professional MMA fighter in September 2001. Dean would defeat Randy Halmot by way of a first-round submission at Gladiator Challenge 6 - Caged Beasts less than one minute into the matchup. His second pro MMA bout would also last in less than a minute but Dean was on the wrong side of things this time.
Dean would lose via TKO as he submitted to punches against UFC veteran Joe Riggs at RITC 43 - The Match in January 2003. The veteran referee would get back to the win column during his competitive days and did so in August 2004. Dean would defeat Timothy Mendoza at KOTC 39 - Hitmaster with a TKO from a knee and follow-up punches at the 3:31 mark of the second stanza.
The California native would not compete at all in 2005 with a planned bout in July of that year for Cage Rage 12 against Tom Blackledge being canceled. Dean would return to the cage the year thereafter and lost to Jung Gyu Choi after submitting to a keylock in the second round. This went down at Spirit MC 9 in October 2006.
The final pro-MMA fight of Dean took place at Cage Rage 22- Hard as Hell in July 2007. He would lose to Dave Legeno by way of a TKO stemming from an eye injury between rounds before the second stanza could officially kick off.
